Sustainable wooden jewelery.
something pretty from aliette
The Shanghai World Expo opening will be in a few hours and I just managed to catch a glimpse online on how the pavilions look.

Singapore Pavilion URBAN SYMPHONY by KNTA:
-resembles a musical box and "aims to show rhythm and beat... ..." designboom.
-"pays tribute to Singapore symbolising its harmony of culture, progress and sustainability" worldarchitecturenews.com

OK... ...culture and progress I get but sustainability?? Recyclable materials were supposedly used whenever possible in the construction of the pavilion but the country is definitely still pretty behind on incorporating recycling into the people's daily lifestyle... ... as compared to some others... ...in my humble opinion.

Australian Pavilion ImagiNATION by Wood Marsh:
-"the bold sculptural form acknowledges the Australian ancient landscape while demonstrating in a visually striking way the sophistication of modern urban design in Australia" www.australianpavilion.com
- experience includes 3 acts: Journey, Discover + Enjoy

I think they simply used leftover material from the Australian Centre of Contemporary Art (ACCA) in Melbourne, also by the same architects. See the resemblance?

sources here and here

Hong Kong Pavilion INFINITY by Chan Wai Ching + Sze ki Shan:
- to highlight her unlimited potential
-showcases the city's openness and global connectivity

My personal favourite is the German Pavilion BALANCITY by Lennart Wiechell.
It showcases the country's urban life, design and products.

What looks like perforated metal makes it a walk-through sculpture that blurs interior from exterior... ...cool.
Handmade water-coloured thank you cards for the bridal party. The colour and design can even replicate their actual outfits! Such a sweet idea!!

Unfortunately, I read somewhere that it's proper etiquette to send thank you cards out within a week of the event. Oh-o... ...guess I missed the boat by a loong looong time.

Here's how to D.I.Y:

Good news for brides-to-bes who can't find the time for art and craft. These handmade cards can be ordered online from Lilly and Louise's design and craft studio in Santa Barbara. Click here for their website and here, their blog.

Remember the times?

The Marina Bay Sands casino was finally open for business yesterday. All I can say is that this monster of a structure resembles 3 fat sticks supporting a pod of a skygarden great for a UFO landing. This island casino apparantly cost $5.9 billion to build and ranks a shy no. 2 on the list of most expensive casinos to date. Inspiring?
Photos from the Age
Mental note to myself:
Don't forget to show your appreciation. Remember to give thanks.

Oh well, procrastination can get to the better of me sometimes but here are some inspirational ways to show your gratitude. Love the ideas!

The secret to prettiness:
1. Paper Doilies - from the baking section in the supermarket
2. Manila Tags - ready-made ones from the stationery shop or DIY
3. lots of different Japanese Tape - unaware of a retail stockist. best bet is to order online @ happytape
My search for these raw materials begins... ...
The way to a man's heart is through his stomach. This has been tried and tested. On top of pretty packaging, the gift will be a lot more well received if it can warm the tum tum.
Along with instant hot chocolate, all you need are :

And follow these steps:

tadaa... ... the sweet gift of love

next stop: Santorini

from Axioo

Following the volcanic fiasco, the next place I'd like to visit is Santorini. Looks totally surreal.
On another note. I'm a fan of Axioo's happy photos. The colours are always so defined. Click here to see for yourself.

Dark chocolate cake and ice-cream anyone? Sinful but 101% orgasmic!
Originally from Singapore, stores are mushrooming here in Hong Kong.

If you don't like chocolate cake in it's conventional form, check this out from Cake Face in Melbourne. The Hermes is to-die-for! One of the most talented cake designers I've met, her cakes look great and taste fantastic too! The innovative flavours come not too sweet. To feel on top of the world, click here to find out more.

the high line

This is just what every city needs. An awesome piece of eco-friendly urban design. A must-see in New York I say!

I stumbled upon this "stylo-milo" image of Sejima carrying a little model of her design of the Museum of Contemporary Art in New York. Nice... ...
